When 2022 was released, naturally there were bugs. So I've been sticking to 2021 until the kinks are worked out. However, there is one bug/feature/setting that has been persistent and I'm hoping someone out there has either a workaround or knows what I need to change to get the dumb thing to behave properly.
In every version of PS up to 2021, if I press and hold R or E or Z or whatever, I can use the respective tool momentarily. After I do whatever, I get my brush back. In 2022, there seems to be this mandatory 1-2 second period you MUST hold that hotkey for before it'll switch back.
Example in PS 2021: I'm using the brush. Oops! Need to erase. Hold E, erase the stroke, release E, immediately go back to brush [ Spam link removed by Moderator ]
Example in PS 2022: I'm using the brush. Oops! Need to erase. Hold E, erase the stroke, release E, I'm still on the eraser tool. I press B to get back to brush.
In the latter example, however, if I hold E and erase for a couple seconds before releasing, THEN it'll automatically switch back.

Hello, many digital painters complained about the fact that the spring loaded tools behavior hampered their work, and this prompted a change to a slightly longer time for it to work. You can edit the time with the Psconfig.txt file, as described on steps 1-3: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/enable-optional-extensions-photoshop-cc.html
The terminology for the spring loaded time is described on this section of the page: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/enable-optional-extensions-photoshop-cc.html#sprk
