For a couple or even a few months, Photoshop now always freezes after the first few actions I take in opening a file. That's true with PS 25.9.1, it was true before that update, and it's also been true when I followed the advice to roll back to and use PS 25.5.1. The latest example is typical: I try to open a file, then after setting the white and black points in Camera Raw, PS and nearly my entire computer freezes. My cursor moves but I can take no actions in PS; with a control-alt-delete command I cannot open task manager (the system just reverts to the frozen PS). The only action I seem able to take is from the control-alt-delete screen, and that is to sign out. When I sign back in and reopen PS, I get a GPU incompatability message:
Your graphics processor is incompatible.
Fail: GPU not supported Fail: OpenGL unavailable Fail: DirectX unavailable Fail: Insufficient VRAM: (0 MB of 1500 MB required) Pass: DirectX feature level UNKNOWN available, feature level 12.0 required GPU Detected: Unknown GPU (UNKNOWN).
Only after restarting the computer can I reopen PS with my regular GPU compatability review:

It seems that any initial steps to open a file causes the freezes -- it does not seem to be linked only to actions in Camera Raw. If I open a file with no modifications in Camera Raw, a freeze occurs as soon as I take a couple or so actions in PS itself.
In addition to trying to roll back to PS 25.5.1, I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS, I have upgraded to Raydeon's lastest driver for my GPU, I have reopened PS with with GPS disabled, I have reset preferences, I have opened PS with no add-ons. I believe the only basic recommnded action I have not taken is to disable Bitdefender Antivirus Plus (which does not have a firewall) only because I do not see how to temporarily disable it. I will jettison it and buy another antivirus program if Bitdefender is known to be a problem.
