Ps freezing and/or crashing after cloned drive

A few days ago, I cloned my local C drive to a larger SSD to update and install Adobe software and apps. I have not wiped the original drive in case I may need something on it- not sure if that is causing the problems or is relevant in any way.

Since then, Photoshop has been nearly unusable. There's about a 8-10 minute window I can do very basic work before it either freezes my computer, crashes, takes my screen to black forcing a reset, or some combination of those. Inside of that 8-10 minute window, almost anything I try to do is met with "could not complete (X) command because of a program error" or "could not use (X) because there is not enough memory (RAM)." I have 32gb of RAM, I have set my preferences for Photoshop to use 100%. I have an Nvidia GeForce 3060 Ti processor that I have updated the drivers for. When I go to my system settings in windows, it claims I have 31.1GB of usable RAM. I am typically only running Lightroom and Photoshop at the same time.

Lightroom also has problems, but not to the extent Ps does. But regularly after getting a photo back into Lr from Ps, it will let me adjust sliders without ever actually making changes to the photo, and has also been crashing occasionally. Ps, however won't even make correct subject selections, often selecting random groups of pixels all over the image or a giant square.

I have uninstalled, updated and reinstalled both photoshops. I have not done so with Lr out of fear of losing work in progress. I am operating Ps 25.1 I have Ps Beta and Lr updated.

My best procedure over the last two days has been, edit 1 to 2 photos, computer freezes/crashes/stops responding, whatever, restart my computer, repeat and the cycle continues. I am missing deadlines, delaying deliverables, and generally letting clients down due to these issues.

Why is this happening? And more importantly, how do I fix it without losing work?
