PS keeps asking me if i want to save my already saved file

I don´t know why PS keeps asking me if i want to save my file with a dialogue box, when i already saved my file (via save or save as command) and i want to close the tab.

Usually the "*" disapears in the file name on the tab, when you have saved the file. But since version 21.0.2 not anymore.

My work is saved, but its annoing to have these dialogue boxes poping up everytime you want to close a tab and you have to double check if the file is saved correctly.

I´m working on a pc with win 10.

I haven't experienced this issue myself but you could try resetting the Photoshop preferences.

https://helpx.adobe.com/au/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.

Agree... this SUPER annoying, esp when you have multiple files to close.  Did you find a fix?

Unfortunately not.
I moved to a new Win 10 PC and there are no problems at all now.

Reinstalling and/or resetting the preferences on my old PC did not work for me btw.
Hope it works for you!

Hi, I agree with Bojan , try to reset the prefernces, or to reinstall phothop with this tool:

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Maybe It can be also a file permission problem... Please check your admin permission, or try to create a new user account and install photoshop on it.

Just so we're clear: are you saving out jpegs?

If you're saving out jpegs from a layered/16 bit original, by whatever method, you will get that prompt when closing the original layered/16 bit file. That's because you're not closing the jpeg, you're closing the original.

The jpeg format doesn't support layers, transparency, alpha channels or 16 bit depth.

There's been a lot of noise about jpeg/png etc being moved to "save a copy" - but the above applies regardless, whether you use the new method or checked the boxes to revert to the old behavior.

The asterisk means there are unsaved changes to the file.

The problem occurred when you want to save whatever file. With or without layers. It was before the "save as" behavior change.

If I had a flat jpg, did a brush stroke, pressed save, THE CHANGES WHERE SAVED but the asterisk was still there and it kept asking me to save the file.

And no matter how you tried to save it, it kept asking you if you want to save the change.

You always had to double check if the files are saved.

OK, got it. That doesn't happen here, just tested. So a preference reset is probably in order as said above. Or it can be a permissions issue.

I have the same and finding it infuriating. I'm only handling a few files a day so dread to think what it's like for pros with high workloads.

You need to be very specific about exactly what steps you're using here, because under some circumstances this is normal, expected and desirable behavior.

You should get that prompt in all cases where the saved file does not support all the original properties of the file - in other words; when the save process discards data.

This is maybe server related problem. It happens at work on MAC and at home on PC too, when im saving work on server. I press cmd-W, dialog appears "Save changes to Adobe Photoshop document xxx before closing". Right after save (a while if i am uploading a few gb to server from home), dialog popups again asking same Save changes...

I think that PS doesnt receive info from server, that document is already saved an asks again for Save changes.

Sometimes doesnt ask, maybe server responses qicker.
