am I the only one seeing this? This is on a PC using Windows 11. Not sure if it's happening on a mac.
I even have one file where one smart object will open in Illustrator and the other will not. This is absolutely crushing my deliverable dates

For the camera raw issue, in photoshop go to Edit>Preferences>Camera Raw and under File Handling set both JPEG and TIFF to Disable.

I forgot to ask what type of files these are.
If camera raw files from the camera then the camera raw dialog will always open.
What version of photoshop are you using?
Perhaps a reset of the Photoshop and/or Camera Raw preferences will fix the issue.

Hi @Jeff Arola this is a smart object that WAS pointing to an Illustrator smart object. It's no longer working.regarding the version, it says 25.1 in Creative cloud. It should be the very latest. My PC auto updates

You need to explain what happens in a little more detail. So far I'm not hearing anything not perfectly normal and expected - depending on your ACR preferences and your settings for file associations in Windows.

@D Fosse
-open current psd file
-click on smart object
What should happen is this will open in Illustrator. Instead, it's launching camera Raw.
In fact, this very same file has another smart object in it that does open in Illustrator just fine. The previous one opened fine just a day ago.

What I'm asking is, what is the file type (extension) of the embedded smart object?
And what are your Windows file associations set to for that extension?

@D Fosse it's an illustrator file as a smart object. One works and one doesn't.
I'm not sure how to addess this windows association.

What is the file extension you see in the separate window that the smart object opens in?
And in Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps by File Type, what is the setting for that extension?

I got frustrated and just deleted the file and re imported. I did not know to look there.
