PS printing Red River profiles not found for Epson P800.

Has any one experienced a problem with printing through Photoshop/Epson SC-P800 where the Red River profile doesn't show up in the profiles list? Thanks.

@christopher1971 Do you have the Red River profiles installed in the correct place on your mac?? 

Are you looking for them in the popup list under "Photoshop Manages Color"? 

If you're confident of that, then (double click to) open one of the profiles in the Mac's Colorsync Utility and look at the 'desc' tag, does the profile show a different internal name to its external one?

Sometimes applications show a different profile name to that shown in the file system (Mac Finder).

I've NO idea why profile makers do that!

Yes, the profile has shown in the "Photoshop Manages Color" list before I had to uninstall the printer driver, and reinstall the printer later. The RR profile is in the correct location. I will look at the description tag to see if it is labeled differently. Good idea. This Imac hasn't really performed well using the P800 printer. I'm disappointment because the Epson 3880 has done a good job on a PC I use as a secondary computer. Thank you for your help.

Epson / Mac: Add printer, AirPrint issue, here are some notes about Apple’s built in Gimp Print / Gutenprint based printer driver.

Best avoided.  It can print quite differently from the manufacturer's own driver software. 

Does the print driver look different? some options have changed?

Are media names the same as previous drivers you've used, e.g.. is 'Premium Luster Photo Paper' mentioned or are the media types just simplified names like matte or gloss? 

You'll be aware, I'm sure, that the selected media name in the driver must match the selection made when printing ICC profiling patches, (so the ICC profile and media type selection are linked) . BUT is the media name selected previously actually there in the list?

IF the media names listed differ (and have been simplified) then you are perhaps inadvertently using Apple’s default Gimp/ Gutenprint driver rather than Epson’s own. It's not just a matter of installing Epson driver software, you have to select it too. I do know it's very important to use Epson's own driver software. I tripped over this myself on a client site, the driver looked different and I put it down to an OSX update imposed style - took a while to work that one out.

Here's an example of what I'd expect to see in an Epson driver for media name options:

 

Can you access print settings in an application other than Photoshop, try Preview?

If not, a thorough purge may be in order, perhaps install drivers (downloaded from Epson) again: 

1. Delete all instances of Epson printers from 

System Settings (or System Preferences depending on Mac OS version) / Printers & Scanners -or- System Preferences>Print & Fax, whichever you have.

2. Then go to /Library/Printers and trash the whole Epson folder.

3. Delete the Epson LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using that utility).

4. Then go to Epson online and download the printer drivers yourself.

Do not let the Mac install the printer driver for you.

There’s one more tripwire - in System Settings (or System Preferences depending on Mac OS version) / Printers  - - - , when adding the connected printer

[i.e. click the padlock, enter your password and click the “+” button]

- watch out for the “Use" selection - I recommend you do not select "Airprint" there under "use", but, rather, manually set "use” to the printer name, which will then call on the manufacturer’s own software rather than the default Apple driver (that’s based on Gimp Print / Gutenprint, which misses out some printing options such as specific manufacturers media names).

@christopher1971 -I appreciate your thanks -  so, to be clear -  this particular profile has shown up in the "Photoshop Manages Color" list before, but it doesn’t now?

Can I presume that the profile was downloaded from Red River and placed in the profiles folder by you - not installed by Epson's driver installer? If so maybe just replace it with a new download and make sure it's in the right place. notes on that here.

You're not using "Airprint" are you? It shouldn’t affect Photoshop's profiles list, but it will mess up access to Epson's driver. See separate reply for clarity

To answer your questions:The RR profiles did show up on "Photoshop Manages Color", but I removed them because of poor image quality when using them.
The profile was downloaded from Red River Paper, and installed by me, not Epson installer.Yes, the Imac was using Airprint driver, which I converted to Epson driver for P800. Since then, I've not been able to find and use the RR profile when using the printer in Photoshop. It does show up in the Colorsync directory.Thank you again.

@christopher1971 Try double clicking one of the RR profiles, it will open in Colorsyncv utility.

In the record: 1 'desc' you'll normally see 

ASCII name

UniCode name

Mac Script name

the name shown next to each should match - or what you see in the finder will not match the internal name used in applications

how did you remove them, where from and how did you re-add them? 

Why do you want them back if they gave 'poor image quality'?

My intention was to see if my color and density would improve by re-installing them. I now believe my issue is related to the Epson P-800. Thank you for your input.

@christopher1971 I appreciate your thanks, do note that there's no substitute, really, for the accuracy gained by making ink/media/printer profiles made for your specific printer. 

If you still can't get those Red River profiles to load up (i.e. appear in Photoshop manages Color") I suggest you chat with their support team.
