My laptop updated on it's own today when I was working in PS 2020. Now, all the sudden, I'm forced into PS 2022, my 2020 version is gone, & so are all my custom brushes & patterns I created & use, as well as my preferences. Any help finding/restoring everything would be much appreciated.

Hi, it seems that you have auto-update selected in Creative Cloud.

Normally, you can select whether to import the previous preferences or not.

I would suggest to disable it in the future, if you want to select when you update.

I would also suggest to try: Edit/Presets/Import export presets.

Thanks so much for the response. The problem now is that I have no idea where to find the presets/files to import. I don't understand why, when Photoshop updates, it doesn't keep all my settings, custom brushes, shapes, etc. It is beyond frustrating.

Thé best location to store them is in the presets folder it opens the first time in each panel menu, in your user account. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html

If those are presets you got from the net, search in your downloads folder.
