Arrows, talk bubbles, hearts, stars...  Heres's how to find them.

Did you know that you can add Legacy Shapes to the list in the Shapes Panel? If you are familiar with Legacy Shapes such as arrows, frames, stars, symbols, and many others from older versions of Photoshop, you may be wondering where they went. If you would like to use them in the current version of Photoshop, simply follow the steps below.

Check this short video on Youtube:

From the main window, select Window > Shapes to open the shapes panel.

But why all the folders? What was wrong with it before these extra steps of hunting through folders every time?

@Pattie-F Excellent note, but have you seen the number of threads with that very issue? All users are looking where they always found the shapes, in the option bar, or in the contextual menu. If the legacy shapes (and gradients, etc.) would be found there, many users could work without an -excellent- FAQ like this one.

Hello, @Trevor.Dennis hence why I have made a feature request: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-ideas/add-legacy-shapes-patterns-gradients-swatch...

What infuriates me is that the Brushes option bar local menu has that entry, as well as the local menu of the contextual (righ-click with brush tool) It's a JDI if I know one! How many threads, youtube videos and time wasted over that issue that has such a simple fix...

Hi Pattie-F,

Thank you for sharing this useful tip! Adding Legacy Shapes to the Shapes Panel in Photoshop can be very helpful for designers who are accustomed to using those shapes. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open Photoshop and create a new document.
  2. Go to the Shapes Panel by clicking on Window > Shapes or press F5.
  3. Click on the gear icon in the Shapes Panel and select "Legacy Shapes and More" from the dropdown menu.
  4. A new window will appear with various shapes to choose from.
  5. Select the shape you want to use and drag it onto your canvas.
  6. You can customize the shape's color, size, and other properties as you normally would in Photoshop.

Thanks again for sharing this helpful tip!

Best Regards

Olivia Devid
