"Stroke work path" slows to crawl

Hello, just updated to newest Photoshop version on my Windows 10 computer.

I like to use purchased  third party photoshop "actions" to create artistic effects.

My favorite action now slows to a crawl when it lands on the "stroke work path" instructions, repeated several times within the action. This problem first appeared with this photoshop version. Do you have any suggestions for correcting this, save leaving Photoshop on for hours to run this operation? Thanks.

I might add, the previous action instruction is "select smudge," and the smudge appears to move when it runs the "stroke work path" line.
