Hi,
I've found this issue a few times google searching it but wasn't able to extract a solution for me as the issue seemed to be related to macOS update in early 2022 for most people.
So I am on a an macbook and all of a sudden, I get an error message when trying to access a smart object within a specific file. The error message says "The application “Adobe Photoshop 2022” can’t be opened." - I get this error message IN photoshop, so pratically Photoshop is already opened. I was able to access the smart object within this file about 2 weeks ago.
I tried out two other files with smart objects in them and I can access them without a problem... however, I encounter a second issue - the smart objects won't update. I'm using mockup files and when I'm trying to change the smart objects content, the changes get ignored on the files that have them embedded.
Very annoying... don't think it's a RAM issue, I have around 45 GB of free space.
Hope anybody can help.

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:
Restore your preferences using this manual method:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Does it work correctly?
If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

What OS are you on? Monterey or Ventura?

Hi @Erik28849231b2rl it sounds like something in your smart objects may have caused the issue. Have you tried going back to the source file and resaving out of Illustrator and recreating the smart object layer? Is it linked or embedded?
