Re installing Photoshop CS6 and licensing from a purchased CD copy from Adobe

Registering an old version of Photoshop CS6 after re installation seems to be a problem.  How does the internet registration work now? All I get is an error code.

Adobe does not reset activations. Before you can activate Photoshop CS6, it must be deactivated from one or both of the computers where it was installed. You didn't say whether or not you did that.
