Rec. Marquee tool not visible

The eliptical marquee tool works fine, but the rectangular is not visible as I attempt to use it.

Hi. Are you saying that when you use the Marquee tool, nothing is selected, or you don't see the "marching ants" visual? The preset screenshot you sent simply indicates that you have no particular usage special instructions attached to the tool, but it should just work, when applied. May I assume you don't have View>Extras checked? Are you attempting to make a selection on a layer with nothing on it?
Please provide further information so we may make suggestions to help you.
