Red eye in Camera Raw as a filter doesn't stick

While teaching my PS class yesterday, I showed my students how to do red-eye in ACR as a filter on a layer. Worked great. We went on to do other things to the layer, liquify, showed them they could double click and adjust ACR settings, etc. Everything caused the redeye adjustment from ACR to disappear. I'm on a Mac, students were on PCs. I can replicate it. I tried uploading / linking to a video I made but it wouldn't let me.
