I have trouble with de refine edge tool for quit a while now, but lately it is really unusable. I use a Mac Studio M2, with Ventura 13.5.2. Photoshop is version 25.0.0.
I have a printscreen were you can see what is happening when I only use the radius.
There are strange artefacts and a double edge. When I use de refine edge brush it is not refining or gives the same artefacts as in the picture or selected an round area in the shape of the brush whit a lower transparity. In the already selected area it will delete the selection at that place.
I am not the only one with this kind o problems, so I guess a bug. But will Adobe fix it??
Or knows someone a fix?
Thanks in advence!

What are your expectations? Usually you must use multiple sliders to make it work for you exactly as you want.

My expectations are: the function must work! I am not a starter, I have used this function often in the past. I know how it must be working. I have used only one slider because I don't want a discussion abaut the settings.

By @Ellen F.
To clarify: your method is unusable and you don't want a discusssion about settings?
If you change your mind and are interested in finding a method that is usable, please start with telling us how you made the initial selection. Providing the image so we can work with it will help us to help you.

I am experiencing the same issue plus when using the tool instead of refining the edge it is removing it. Same operating system and PS version. I spent 3 hours over 2 days with tech support at Adobe. The support person gained access to my computer remotely and played with several images. Their response was that the tool was not working as expected. He reset my preferences and reinstalled PS but no success or resolution.
I followed an online tutorial using the same image as the presenter. Same steps and settings. His worked as expected and I had the issues described above.

Hi Paul,
I think it's a problem because it's a sillicon Apple instead of Intel. Will Adobe try to fix it or have they given up?

Jane the problem isn't that I don't know how to use the tool, but the problem is there is a bug so the tool doesn't work. Look at the text of Paul who has the same problem.
