Remember text objects in a way that lets you edit them later

Maybe I misunderstand how Photoshop works, but it seems like when you enter some text using the text tool, it gets converted into an image that's not further editable as text as soon as you finish editing and go on to another tool. It would be great of Photoshop remembered the text objects as text objects in a way that they could be edited again in the future and if they were even saved into .psd files that way. Sorry if there's already away to do this. If there is, I'd like to know how. Thanks.

Text layers remain editable, unless you rasterize them, or save the file in a format that doesn't support layers.

Can you provide us more details because as already stated, Type layers stays editable unless you rasterize them.

What are steps you are taking to create text, can you describe? Also screenshot with Layers panel visible can help.
