Hi everyone, I was asked by a friend to restore an image that had severe nicotine stains. I tried, but have not been very successful (replace color etc...) Any assistance would be great! I also thought about converting the image to B&W to make the restoration less noticeable. Thank You!

P.S. I attached a low resolution jpg as an example. If anyone can help I can send you a high res image. I'll of course compensate you for your time!

With such widespread degraded photo quality, this will be a painstaking & tedious restoration project.  Be patient, take your time with it.

I would start with Frequency Separation. See PiXimperfect's video tutorial below.

shoo... this would be quite a process and may even require complete repainting which requires quite a bit of skill to do and a lot of time. But it all depends on what level of restoration you require.

Unforunately that would take a lot of work as the entire photo would need to b rebuilt. This might not look exactly the same.  Most likely you would need to provide other images of the couple from the same time period that are clean as well.

I doubt you find an easy solution and most people will charge a lot for this.

I wish I could share better news.

Use a black and white adjustment layer and drag the yellow slider to the right to lighten the stains, Then flatten it  and use the colourize neural filter to put the colour back in. What colourize gets wrong, like the flowers and brides arm you can paint on a layer set to colour mode. That will get you half way there. Might be worth rescanning the original rotated 90 degrees if you are using a flatbed scanner, might get less specular highlights on the damage on the background that way.
