Replace Skies works incredibly slow in Photoshop 22.5.1 on M1 Mac with pinwheel of death

I have an M1 Mac 16 GB RAM and lastest version of Photoshop 22.5.1. I use 90% of available ram. I find that using Replace Sky is incredibly slow. and almost unusable. The pinwheel of death is constatnly appearing each time I click either on a sky or try to use the scroll bar. It takes, sometimes, 30 seconds to respond to a click. Any suggestions.

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop while using Sky Replacment. Would you mind telling us which macOS version are you using on the M1 Mac?

Please ensure that Photoshop has the necessary permissions on the Mac by following the steps mentioned below:

1. Go to the System Preferences for your Mac, then Security and Privacy, then select the Privacy tab.

2. Then select Accessibility from the list to the left & check if Photoshop is added to the list with a check mark in front of it.

3. If Photoshop is not a part of the list, please add it by unlocking the window first using the lock at the bottom left, then clicking the + icon & navigating to the Applications folder.

4. Also, grant permissions to Photoshop under Full disk access located in the same list as Accessibility.

5. Once done, restart the Mac & check if it helps.

If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop manually using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3

Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj

I went ahead and manually reset the preference as in the first response and, for whatever reason, that seems to have worked. The other recommendations I tried first but they did not help.

Sky replacement was working fine for me but then after a month or so it started to stall Photoshop.

I followed steps 1-5 above and that solved the problem.  Thank you!

Hello!  I am having the same issue with the sky replacement function.  When I first tried it on my Mac it seemed to work fine, but now I just get the spinning beach ball of death.  I am running a Mac Mini M1 running Monterey version 12.0.1 with 16GB of Ram and a 2T HD.  I have Photoshop see 2022 ver. 23.1.  I have tried all of the things you've listed above and none are working.  Everything else on PS and Lightroom are quick as lightning.  Any other thoughts from anyone?  Thanks!
