Save As Copy appends "copy" twice

In Photoshop v23, when I Save A Copy, it appends the word "copy" twice to the end of the filename.  The previous version of Photoshop did not have this glitch, so I suspect it is a bug.

In Preferences > File Handling, is there a checkmark on Do Not Append Copy?

That's true, but I *do* want the word "copy" appended.  The problem is that Photoshop is appending it twice.  For example, after editing image file DSC01234.jpg, Save A Copy will create a new file called DSC01234 copy copy.jpg, instead of just DSC01234 copy.jpg.  I tried doing what you suggest, but it simply leaves off  "copy" completely.
