Moving the save as JPG or PNG to Save a copy sucks big time! Even a simple action will now add the supid "copy" to the end of the file name. This only adds one more click everytime you want to save a JPG or PNG. Also you have the option of quick saving as PNG from the layers list, but you have to group multiple files and then export the grup with quick export as PNG, otherwise you will end up with lots of PNG files exported... This is so not user friendly. It slows down the work process. If it is possible to export as PNG, why not leave it where it previously was. For safety Issues, you could add checkbox "save as copy" that people can use to not lose layers or whatever the danger was...

Interestingly I have not found it to be different. I alway would save my .psd file first, then I always have always gone to save as for saving the file in the format I needed. So I guess those who were not doing it that way will just have to get used to it. It is no different than learning a new setting or filter. That is what makes Photoshop so cool, it is constantly updating.

But for example... as a photographer, I would open photos from Camera Raw and would have to resize all photos. So I would create 2 batches of photos. One for vertical ones that I would resize down to 2400x3600 and the horizontal ones that I would resize down to 3600x2400. I would use actions to achieve this, and now when using actions, all photos would end up with "_copy" at the end of each filename. Glad there is an option to use Legacy "Save as"! Otherwise I would have to delete the "_copy" word from hundreds of photos or get started with using CMD more often which is a bummer when it was much simpler before.

I just made a post talking about the same issue. Got a new computer and had to install a new version of photoshop and thought there was a setting I messed up.
I've been using Photoshop easily for 15+ years now, so I'm not sure why anyone would have thought a change like this was a good idea.
If anything, save/save as should have been left the same and the save copy should have been the new option.
Deleting current version and installing old version now
