Saved jpg file unrecognizable

I am altering a jpg photo and saving it as a jpg but I can't open it because it says the file format is unrecognized??  I have been doing this for years with this software and never had aprobem before??

Hi @martymac1 sorry to hear this.

 

What has changed in your system or OS since you last did this workflow? What updates have you done to the computer?

 

Could you share a screenshot or video of what you are seeing when you get this error, what is the message you see?

 

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Does it work correctly? 

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back. 

 

 

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Occasionally I run into a similar problem. If the client has accidently changed the file extension to .jpg eventhough the file is actually a .tif file. Photoshop wont open the file until I change the file extension back to .tif and then it opens fine.
