I was working for about 3 hours the other day on a project, saving in about 30 minute intervals.  My laptop died last night bc I didn't plug it in.  Woke it up today to find that my project no longer exists according to my computer.  Laptop is on Mojave and Photoshop like I said is 22.5.9. Would very much appreciate any help in finding a solution.

Photoshop did not erase a saved file, that's for sure. If you are certain the file was saved then something else happened on the OS level. Anyway, you can not recover missing file using Photoshop, that's impossible. The only way is to start Photoshop and hope it will open the recovered file due to an unexpected close or crash if that has happened.
