Scratch disk not recognized

Community Beginner ,
Jul 30, 2024 Jul 30, 2024

My LaCie, 2019 6TB external hard drive suddenly is not available on the scratch disc list in PS. It was working fine while creating animation. There is 2 TB available, it is journaled and has been declared ok by disk utility.
I am hoping it has nothing to do with my Mac OS which is running Ventura. I understand Sonoma can cause serious issues with Corel Painter, my default drawing software, so needless to say, I’d rather not upgrade.

Thanks in advance if anyone has an answer.

How is the external connected? Thunderbolt, USB-C, USB-A?

Check this page and confirm the speed of your external drive. Did you recently update your OS?

I upgraded Ventura to 13.6.7 after the problem arose, hoping it would resolve the problem, which it didn't. My tech knowledge ended after you asked to confirm speed of my LaCie. Not sure it would matter since PS was recognizing it for a year and a half without issue. I'm temepted to purchase an SSD device since they are recommended as scratch discs in PS.

Thats what I did - I purchased a USB-C SSD for my scratch disk. Formatted and no issues since.

Yes. I think I've reached the end of the road for this one but thank you very much for your advice. If you don't mind, can you tell me what brand you chose and are you on a Mac?

Ha! I hadn't heard from you and needed to take care of this issue asap so, throwing caution to the wind, purchased a SSD that, turns out, is exactly what you have. Now to see if it resolves my issue.
