Select and mask

I have photoshop. 22.1.1, 16" mac book pro, 2019, Big sur OS, 64gb ram, i9 8 core. And Radon pro 5500 8gb.  Select and mask doent work. It freezes. I have followed the line of answers with disabling graphics card and putting on "Basic" and still nothing.  How can I refine my selections! I need to fix this!

Try this option, Go Select> Select and Mask.

As you click Select and Mask from the drop down menu hold down Shift+Cmd/Ctrl to bring up the refine edges Panel.
