New to CC, I previously used cmd+click on a layer to check if the layer has content outside of the canvas. This invoked a selection, which also appeared outside of the visible canvas area if there was non visible content there. A really fast way to see how much of an image layer is hidden via crop or if there are remnants of a mask outside of the visible area without having to move the layer around.
In version 24.7 this is not possible anymore. The selection border always ends at the canvas edges, regardless if there is content stretching beyond the visible area. Is this a bug or another feature I lost by upgrading to CC?

Yes this has been brought up numerous times here on the forums with no comment from Adobe about whether the change was intentional or not.
In the meantime using the Move Tool with Show Transform Controls checked can serve the same purpose.

Thanks for the answer Jeff, I guess I failed to find posts regarding this problem. So maybe not a bug per se, but yet another thing I have to work around 😕

I didn't mean to imply that you did anything wrong since the search engine for these forums is not that good and Adobe hasn't said whether they consider it a bug or not.
Many users do consider it a bug.
