Selection Buggy in 2022 - Mostly Pen Tool

Anybody else having the pen tool be super buggy?

macOS Monterey 12.0.1

A few examples I have are that when I use the pen tool to draw a path > right click > make selection > new selection it creates an inverted selection. Not that it's killing me to invert my selection everytime, just slightly disrupts my workflow. 

If I have an existing selection then I use the pen tool to create a path, then right click and add to, subtract from, or intersect with the current selection, they all do not do what I want them to do.  (screenshot attached for what happens when I select add to current selection)

Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing something similar, or has a short term fix/solution.
