When I cut out an object and paste it into a new project , it is pasted as transparent/white. What am I doing that's causing this? I've done the same thing in the past without problems.  I'm using Adobe Photoshop version 24.2

Hi @nocturnetouch your selection is inversed - you have the background selected not the subject. Go to Select menu>Inverse then try to copy/paste.
