Slight mouse click delay. Hard to describe but very annoying.

Hi, i've been experiencing this issue for more than a year now, so finally deciding to do something about it. This problem only appears on one of my machines, so i know that it's dependant on my hardware configuration.

When I click quickly, there's a very miniscule lag between the click, and when it's registered. this makes using the polygonal lasso tool, pen, or even zooming, transform, panning etc very annoying. It seems that if i dont keep the cursor in one spot while I click the mouse, the click is not registered. even releasing the mouse button is not registered if i quickly pan the image for example. So, i need to be very deliberate and intentional with my clicks, allowing time for the click to register, which is not ideal.

I'm running Windows 10, and have the latest version installed through CC (Version 25.4). I have "use graphic processor" enabled in perofmrance settings, but disabling this doesn't help either, and is not something I want to do as a work around anyway. My machine has an RTX 3080ti in it. I also have a Ryzen 9 5950x processor with 128gb of ram, so I'm very doubtful its a performance issue, rather it seems to be some kind of incompatibility issue. I've had trouble searching for a resolution, because it's a hard problem to describe, and is only really present when i'm working very fast (i've been using photoshop for 15 years, I'm pretty quick in it 😄

Would also like to add that I've got plenty of memory allocated (72gb) to pshop, and multithreading is checked. I also have 1028K cache tile size, 6 cache levels, and a history state of 50..  and a good 1 tb free on my hard drive so I also don't believe it's a scratch disk issue.

It happens in all files, any time i use photoshop on this machine. The mouse lag is not present in any other programs (like 3DS Max, Sketchup Illustrator, In Design etc, which i also use on a daily basis where I click like a madman)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

also want to add, that if i do this while panning, or in a function, it will leave me in that mode. for example, if i am panning and quickly release the mouse button while the cursor is moving, it will stay in "panning" mode. I have to register a new click in order to exit the panning function. same goes for changing brush size. i'll often alt right click to change my brush diameter/hardness, and release it too quickly. the brush will continue to change after the mouse button is released.

Just trying to further describe the issue since i know it's hard to understand.

@Joe262335443qen if the issue is only isolated to one machine and not the other - its most likely not your hardware setup, Photoshop or your GPU.

Have you tried using a different peripheral to test click - as in another completely different mouse?

Hi, Thanks Kevin for the reply. Yes, I have tested with another mouse (bluetooth Logitech MX Anywhere 3) and the problem persists unfortunately. The odd thing is that it's limited only to photoshop. The mouse I usually use is a corded laser mouse actually (Steelseries Rival 3), so I don't believe it's a connectivity issue.

I did some further research today though ,after posting, and I was able to find another thread that seems to describe a very similar issue, and indeed, the problem does seem to get worse over time as photoshop remains open.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/clicks-not-registering-and-getting-st...

However, the suggestion in that post that seemed to work for many, regarding disabling the "Content aware tracing tool" does not seem to help, and was actually disabled already when I went to check. But, it did lead me to this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/left-click-lock/m-p/13729865/page/2#M...

Which, I have yet to try, but will as a last resort, since it looks fairly involved and requires fully uninstalling, backing up settings, etc. I will let you know if i solve anything there. I do have a pretty customized workspace so it's always a bit of a hassle to "redo" all the work i've done in preferences and toolbar/panel setup and can be scary to lose.

At the very least, i've found that i'm not alone in experiencing this. Seems like some kind of memory leak or something. I dont know. Thank you for your help.

Try easy things first.

Find your mouse driver and remove. Reboot to insure it is removed. On reboot Windows will reinstall driver.

You can try looking in Event Viewer to see if there are and "Freeze" events o/a the time the glitch occured. This may or may not be captured.

Have you experienced it in a previous version of Photoshop? (e.g. 2015.5 / 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)
