Slow image stacking Photoshop 2021

Community Beginner ,
Feb 12, 2021 Feb 12, 2021

I am trying to stack a macro shot with 200 images,photoshop2021 keeps freezing

i have now reset preferences and got to the stage of Auto Align.

it has been processing for now for 5 hours and the progress bar has hardly moved.

I am using a Mac with the latest operating system and it has 24gb of Ram which should be ample.

anyone any thoughts or fixes.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the slowness in Photoshop. Could you please let us know the operating system version you're working on?

Also, could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

You may also try optimizing Photoshop's performance and see if that helps:

Regards,

Sahi

Hi,
Thanks for the response,I have tried your suggestion but still painfully
slow and eventually seems to stop.
My Mac is running the latest Big Sur update.
It has a 3.3 GhzQuad core processor,
24gb 1600 MHZ DDR memory.
I am trying to load 200 layers, align and stack.
I can now load the layers but even after 5 hours the layers have not auto
aligned....
I realise this amount of processing will be slow but this is dire.
Regards
Peter.

The problem has not been solved.

so much so that I have been forced to purchase Helicon Focus which works superbly well.

very disappointed with Adobe and would have expected the industry standard to at least perform as well as third party software.

It's great that you found a solution. Helicon Focus is a marvelous application and specifically designed for this task, which is why it outperforms Adobe in this area.

Have you tried a smaller batch of  trying to align 200 large camera image is a huge undertaken perhaps your are running out of machine resources.   How long does 5 image take. Can Photoshop stack and align 5 of your 200 images?

Don't know if this is still monitored, but I run Windows, and using only 5 pics and locks up on me. I have 8 core proc. and plenty of RAM. Same problem.

Yeah, just starting in macro photography and photoshop is very bad in stacking. i'm switching to helicon is 10x better. It's faster and produces better final image. It's a shame photoshop can't keep up.
