How can I get rid of these black boxes or prevent them from appearing? It's very annoying. They are all over the apps.

What black boxes? Do you mean the position/dimensions properties?

You can disable them in the Photoshop preferences. They're called Transformation Values and you can disable them in the Tools category in the preferences.

Those dimension readouts are supposed to be temporary, disappearing after you finish moving or resizing. If they will not disappear, even when you move on to other tasks or switch apps, that’s a bug that I have also seen sometimes, and I do not know when Adobe will fix it. I think I temporarily fixed it by quitting and restarting Photoshop.

Maybe you can test if it helps to go into Photoshop preferences (settings), and in the Performance tab, disable Use Graphics Processor. I haven’t tried that myself yet, it’s just an idea.

Yes thanks Conrad - that would help. But do you know if it's is it bad for the performance of the computer?

Some GPU-accelerated features might run slower or be unavailable if the graphics processor is disabled, but much of Photoshop is not GPU-accelerated. But anyway, it looks like Ged_Traynor has a better answer…it looks like Adobe is aware of the bug. If you want to keep the graphics processor enabled, maybe quitting and restarting Photoshop is a better workaround until Adobe fixes it.
