Hi,
We had some great images in our shaving brush challenge - thanks to everyone who took part.
Every project needs some milestones and this week we have ours. I wonder what it has seen as it sits by the side of the road. Can you show us?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). I've already put it on a transparent background, to save you time masking.
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

Of course, Dave, you are right.
More astonishingly, the milestone says quite litterally that if you go that way as far as Edinburgh, you can be in London after just one more mile.
The subtle change to this old beloved milestone reflects the outcome of the notorious battle of Halfway Lane which is now only connected to the new roundabout, and it is both renamed and renumbered (clockwise).
The defeated residents only succeeded in dissuading the highway authority from the suffix Close, but failed in obtaining the telling name Halfway Dead End Lane, Lane being restricted to thoroughfares.
As a comic relief they talked about changing the name of the country to Small Britain (SB instead of GB), but settled on Undersized Kingdom as a new unabbreviation of UK.

They seem to be luckier in Kirkstall.

Or has the country really shrunk that much?
For anyone wondering, the right naming and numbering of streets is exquisitely explained here,

Doom indeed, James, beneath the shroud of darkness between the trees along the lonely lane.
