Something for the Weekend - Part 228 - Light up!

Thank you to all who took part in our previous locomotive challenge. There were some great ideas and images.

This weekend we have a miner's safety lamp. There have been many variations since its invention by Humphrey Davy in 1815, but all work on the same principle and it has saved many lives.

What can you do with it?

The “rules”:

• Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
• Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
• Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
• There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
• The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). It is a png with transparency so you should not need to spend time creating a mask for it.

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Wow Jane.  That's raised the bar for the SFTW threads, and very fitting too.  Wikipedia says he was known for his cynicism carrying a lamp around in daylight 'Looking for an honest man'.  He'd have something to say about Donald Trump and his followers if he were alive today, and who knew that Jeans was spelt with a G back then?

Did you get the bit about him carrying the lamp in daylight looking for an honest man?  I suspect that Diogenes would appear in Ricky Gervais' family tree if Ancestory.com went back that far.

Diogenes never found an honest man — he reputedly found nothing but rascals and scoundrels. He might have had better luck if he had thought to light the miner's safety lamp! 😊
