Something for the Weekend - Part 232 - Through the Mill!

Hi,
We had some great entries to our last, 'Cutting Edge' challenge. Thanks to all who took the time to create those images.
This week we are off to the River Wear at Durham, where we find this old fulling mill. Fulling is a step in the process of making woollen cloth. The building dates back to the 17th century although there are records of a watermill at the location even before that. In 1833 it became a museum and part of the university of Durham. It is a timeless and tranquil scene. What can you do to liven it up?
The “rules”:
- Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
- Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
- Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
- There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
- The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

I started with the Landscape Mixer neural filter to make it look like fall, but it changed parts of the image that I didn't want changed--it replaced the windows, changed part of the structure of the building, and left some peculiar artifacts in the water that almost looked like letters. So I fixed those issues and made a few other minor adjustments.

Thanks for sharing your process, Myra. It's helpful to know the work involved and not just see the final result. This turned out well after your adjustments and I like it!

I like that submarine, duuufner. You've also done a good job turning daylight into dusk. One thing though, I feel that the lights on the submarine and from the window of the mill should reflect in the water. 🙂

Good call Dave! I've added those aspects in. Did you notice the guys drinking a beer on the beach?

Henrik, Dave, mj,
All this reminds me of L'armata Brancaleone, including both jousting and an undecided contest of leadership over the armata in which the two knights fell hay a whole field of corn (swords) and a tree (battle axes).
I am convined the film about those and many other feats was an inspiration for a film about the holy grail almost a decade later.

This sounds like a really fun challenge! The fulling mill by the River Wear looks like a peaceful and historical place. I’m excited to try adding something creative to liven it up! I’ll use the starter image and see what I can come up with.
