Thanks to all who took part in our previous challenges. For the last two challenges we started with small objects, first a spark plug then a dried clove, so I thought this week we should go large. Most artists like a blank canvas and today our canvas is a dry, rocky, and barren landscape. What you put in it, to tell us a story, is up to you.
The “rules”:
- Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
- Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
- Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
- There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
- The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

I didn't realise I was modelling Tracy Island, Trevor. This should be on Blue Peter 🙂

Blue Peter? Blimey! The last time I saw that was in the very early '60s. I just discovered it's still going! Longest-running children's TV show in the world, according What-I-Know-Is-Pedia. Longer than Coronation Street! (Not as long as The Archers, whose signature earworm I can still remember clearly, after more than 50 years outside the UK.)

Haha. They appear everywhere don't they? I hope the golf buggy has four wheel drive to get across those rocks. 🙂

[EDITED] After reading Dave's comment about Earth's shading. Zero Ai

This turned out great. Everything matched perfectly. Nice work, Trevor.

That's a very good match of the lighting direction on the rocks, the lander, and the astronaut, Trevor. I wonder if the earth should be partially in shadow?

Wow. You are absolutely right. Unfortunately, I didn't save the layered version, and Earth had an outer glow, so the edit is not as crisp as it might have been. I am always happy to have mistakes pointed out as we try to get things right, but don't always see things.

Trevor, sorry for letting the cat out, but I am still convinced that your unedited version was sent back thence/whence the smoke > satellites and mirrors are finally in place, the original concept being over 100 years old,

I like the dark atmosphere in this, Jeff. Are those rockets? If so, you've added a whole arsenal there!

I wondered if they were some sort of otherworldly bluebells or snowdrops. It's very atmospheric and it definitely draws you in.

I was looking at the image before reading your text, and trying to workout the relevance of the golden statuettes. They were good movies for sure. Something I learned from the movies was the existance of so many Dune books since the original some 60 years ago. I have collected them all as audiobooks and am looking forward to making a start on them.

After the change in colour, the landscape fits well with that theme, Greg.

Haha. There is a parking area near here, that has a sign saying 'No chain saws allowed' which always puzzles me as to why they felt the need for such a sign! 🙂

Sometimes you have to wonder what on earth happened to necessitate such a sign. I once had a blow dryer with a tag that said "DO NOT USE IN BATHTUB." (duh)

Musk really does seem to have a screw loose. All that prancing around like an eight year old with ADHD firing out those hateful salutes.. Too much Ketamine methinks. The chainsaw scene was incredibly inappropriate. Not only is he putting thousands of people out of work, some of those people are doing crucial work in health and others are organisations set up by Congress, and he is making a big joke of it. They are talking about firing Judges if they don't toe the Trump/Musk line for goodness sake. No wonder Trump is taking Russia's side against Ukraine. He is doing his best to emulate his hero Putin. So far those who stand against him are loking their jobs. How long till they start falling off tall buildings? Americans need to stand up against this madman, or I fear for our way of life as we know it.
