Stability Issues with Adobe Photoshop Version 25.9.1

I have recently encountered severe stability problems while using Adobe Photoshop version 25.9.1. The issues are as follows:

1. The software is extremely unstable, often crashing after just a few minutes of use.
2. These frequent crashes significantly impact work productivity.
3. Currently, the only viable solution is to downgrade to an older, more stable version.

This situation is particularly troublesome for professional users who require extended, uninterrupted use of Photoshop. I hope Adobe can address this issue promptly to ensure users can smoothly operate the latest version of the software.

In the meantime, I recommend that other users experiencing similar problems consider temporarily using an earlier stable version to maintain work continuity and efficiency.

In a first step you should try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

It's recommended to backup the settings before resetting the preferences. Please see here:

Please try to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

If you're unable to access Preferences and PhotoShop crashes before that, please go to the location C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 20xx. Then rename the Sniffer.exe to Old.Sniffer.exe and try launching Photohsop again.

If this doesn't help check your system if it's up-to-date. Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please also provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

I didn't receive any error messages. Photoshop crashed suddenly while in use, resulting in a system crash.

I'm not sure if the Chinese input method I installed is causing Photoshop to crash. The system often crashes when I'm switching between Chinese and English input methods.

Locating C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 20xx, then renaming Sniffer.exe to Old.Sniffer.exe, and attempting to launch Photoshop again.

As I see in the system info the installed driver for the graphic device is one year old.

Please download and install the recent version 555.99 and check again. Please make sure to install the Studio version of the driver and not the Game Ready version!!

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

(read this entire post before acting please)

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references. 

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

If that doesn't fix the issue:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.

Still hanging? 

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. 

Do you still have problems?

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.
