Stacking or Layering images

I've stacked Architectural photo images for years. Sometimes I've hit the wrong button to paint an image, usually I fix it right away.

Today I might have hit something that leaves a small percentage of the layer image onto the backround image after I delete the layer, in this case my strobe light. I paint in the Light Channel so it's a percentage of the light that I paint onto the backround.

I appreciate you for reaching out to me. I have a friend who had the same problem and he gave me the fix.

He sent me to "Color Picker". Black had somehow defaulted to "ffffff" when it must be on "000000", but White must be on "ffffff" to make the layering process work.

Can you supply a screenshot of the workspace specifically including the layers panel after stacking?
