Stuttering, Processor Loading, and possible Memory Leaks

New to Photoshop 23 (including 23.0.1) is a pretty severe stutter, hiccup, processor overload, whatever you want to call it.

Brushes will hang up while drawing, the system will stutter while using the hand or magnifying tools to move; all the while resource monitors show nothing unusual going on in photoshop.

The longer photoshop stays open, the worse the process gets. This can cause other open programs to suffer performance loss as well (I.E. OBS will suffer an encoding overload as Photoshop spikes the CPU / GPU).

The machine I'm using is more than capable of handling photoshop, and previous versions (22.X.X) were significantly more stable:

Windows 10 OS

Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz Processor + 64GB DDR4-3600

GTX 1660 TI 6GB Card

To reproduce this error, use photoshop to edit a photo. From testing, the higher resolution the image, the more severe the problem. Keep a resource monitor open and notice that nothing out-of-the-ordinary shows up while photoshop is lagging your entire system on either your CPU cores or GPU or RAM. 🤷‍:male_sign:

Temporary Fix:
Disabling OpenCL and Anti-Aliasing in the advanced graphics card settings helped a little, maybe?

Do you by chance have G-Sync enabled?

Just as a general troubleshooting to make sure nothing in the prefs is the cause, if you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

Negative re: G-Sync.

Haven't had time to reset preferences but the latest hotfix (November 20th, 2021 maybe?) seemed to fix a large portion of the problem.

It does feel like there's still a memory leak - especially after doing heavy work with LUTs.

The solution to this problem is to roll back to Photoshop version 22.

In its current state, Photoshop version 23 is unusable.

I haven't found Photoshop 2022 to be unstable – the latest version is 23.0.2.

If Jeffrey's suggestion doesn't resolve the issue try using the Adobe Cleaner Tool to uninstall the application and then reinstall it. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

A clean install of a rollback version worked just fine as well.

I cannot risk having  version 23 compromise the functionality other software I'm running alongside photoshop.
