December 9, 2021:

Question that I hope someone can assist me with: I have Illustrator 25.1 and would like to open up a tiff that is linked to my Illustrator files without using Photoshop. Will the tiff open up in Preview and will it link to my Illustrator file?

I have a MacBook Pro and am in macOS Catalina, version 10.15.7.

Thanks for any assistance.

You can, but if the Tiff is associated with Photoshop, it will open there by default.

I assume you are accessing this file from the Finder and not within Illustrator.

So right-click or ctrl-click on the thumbnail and from the context menu, choose Open with > then choose Preview.app from the flyout menu. It should not break the link unless you move or delete the tiff.

It should open your tiff on a one time basis.
