Top Line of Text Clipped PS 20.0.0

Enthusiast ,
Oct 26, 2018 Oct 26, 2018

I'm getting odd errors with the top line of text clipping -this only since 20.0.0. Looks a masking error, but I have no masks associated with the text, and nothing above or below. Happens with multiple fonts. I seem to recall something similar with Illustrator/fonts years ago.

This only occurs with the top line of text in a text block. Example attached. Sometimes this self rectifies when text tool selected, but mostly remains.

If I have an isolated issue, then it doesn't matter. If others are having the same issue, then it might be a bug.

-I already stated that I was using Photoshop 20.0.0

-I already attached a screenshot

-There was no error message

-It didn't matter what I was doing when the problem occurred. It persisted in multiple situations, modes, etc.

-OS 10.13.6

It makes me sad to suggest this, but a whole lot of people are having to revert by checking Legacy Compositing, and that includes me with a newish system, but with a GTX970.  Try it, and if it makes no difference, a) I'll be surprised, and b) we can start thinking about other causes.  This does look like the sort of issue that the new compositing engine can cause though.

What you posted is not a screen capture it may be part of one.  I can not see Photoshop UI and important pallets like layers or that you are using a mac.  If I knew you were using a mac I would most likely not made a post I use windows a Mac users often have different issues the Windows users.  Apple also like to control what get installed on mac machines I would new Display drivers  may be harder to come by because of Apple.

Happens on all sides of text randomly - mostly top side, and can also happen with layered images at times also. Will try and get you screenshots.

Another bug: In an attempt to create an accurate template, I set up guides, and enabled Snapping. But when I drag a marquee, then create a fill layer to the selection, the fill layer does not fill the entire selection area. (See screenshot) Even stranger: When I click/select the fill area, the new selection DOES conform to the guides. But the VISBLE fill is off. There are some very strange bugs in this release. How did all this get past beta testing? (I'm using 20.0.0 on a Mac.

Screen Shot 2018-11-01 at 1.07.29 PM.jpg

This screenshot shows the selection area, from which I created a fill layer. But the fill is not accurate to the selection area. (This screenshot is a tight crop of the page for viewing purposes)

Here is a jpeg image.  Jpeg file format does not support layers and only supports 8bit color  The layer has three colored areas, a couple of cyan lines and two dashed black lines.   It is part of a document being displayed by Photoshop according the the description a crop that discarded all of Photoshop UI and Palettes.  Stating fill did not fill.     So downloaded the image open it in Photoshop. Made it layer 0 and extended the canvas on the right and bottom 100%. Than added a bottom  background under layer 0. dragged out guides and selections and filled the selected area with color.  Fill work well on my machine Windows 10 build 1809  Photoshop CC 2019 version 20.

JJMack, perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't understand why you would open the screenshot I posted. That was simply to illustrate how a fill layer is not accurate to the selection area. This never occurred in previous versions (and I started with PShop 1.0 beta) Perhaps this will explain better:

No I guess what I posted was not clear to you.  I do not have any problem setting  guides making selections and filling the selection.

I have this problem with text in Photoshop CC 2019 (windows 10) as well when using text. It will randomly cut the text off on the top (and sometimes other sides) based on where its positioned in the texture document. I've had this happen in multiple textures I've worked on over the last few weeks. I know it isn't due to the size of the text box, as its bounds are more than big enough. Plus if I enter text mode it fixes itself, only to break again when I select something else.

Also, I did experience the same problem described using a Fill Layer. It took 3 attempts, but it did prove to create a mask different than what I told it to.

I believe users have these problems its I can not get the bugs to bit me, And if you enter text mode and the problem fixes itself the only thing wrong might have been what was being displayed. was not correct, because of some problem in the display system.  A device driver problem, a problem in open cl or gl  etc.  The are some many variations in hardware and software  A bug that bite you can not bite me because I do not have the hardware of software the bug resides in. I'm out of its reach.

It was a REAL problem on Macs. I tried setting a line of text, which was randomly clipped, then I merged the image & the text remained clipped. So that was more than a display issue. But by golly they fixed it the the 20.0.1 update. Thanks for listening Adobe.

I have this problem too. Text layers are regularly rendered with clipping as per the original poster's screenshot. Selecting and moving a layer, then undoing the move, will correct the render and confirm the layer is complete and not masked or under-lapping another layer. But as soon as you select a different layer, the clipping behaviour returns (more often than not). Changing the selected text layer in the Layers Palette can result in other text layers rendering as clipped. They are toggling all over the shop (clipped/unclipped) when text layers are edited or adjusted.

Cheers,

AE

Here's a demo of my experience.

This is not a large .psd file.

Contents are just some type layers above some basic shapes with fills.

Opacity of underlying boxes at less than 100% (4% and 15% actually)

I'm selecting layers in the video and then moving them by one pixel up or down using arrow keys (in case you were wondering what the keyboard activity was).

I note that this issue seems to be fixed after the 20.0.1 update on my 64-bit Windows 7 PC (although it is not mentioned in the release notes | Fixed issues in Adobe Photoshop CC.)

On mac high sierra running latest version of photoshop, still have the font render glitch where it cuts off, the glitch carries through to jpg export so its not just a rendering issue but something more. Screen Shot 2018-12-05 at 8.54.02 AM.png

I'm having the same issue with this 20.01 version. The copy will occasionally get clipped. It happens now and then, not always. I've tried re-installing this version without much luck. Going back to V19 til this is sorted. Shame.

I also am experiencing this issue. I was using Photoshop 20.0.1 on windows 10 64 bit.

Seems to randomly clip the top, bottom or side of the text box. Also I have noticed the same problem on vector smart objects.

I was making animated web banners when I first noticed this, with the timeline toolbar open.

I've had to downgrade to 19.1.17, version 20.0.1 of photoshop is basically unusable for me because of this bug.

I should add this cut off text  carried through to the exported gif/jpeg/png files through Save For Web

Anyone figure out any solutions to this? I'm having exact same type tool bug with 20.0.1. in Win10 64bit, had it with 20.0.0. too. The text will be cut on any side, not just top. Bug remains with Typekit fonts, Open type fonts as well as TTF. The clipping returns to normal if I move the text element, but will clip again randomly when other elements under the font are moved.

This is not screen rendition problem as the clipped type is still clipped after .jpeg export. I sent out one client work where entire letters had been clipped and got some middle-bad shitstorm for it. Any ideas other than downgrade to 19.x and waiting again for the next update?

LATEST

20.0.2. seems to fix the issue for me at least at first tests. Hope it stays away too.

For future reference to others, I have a GTX970. Not sure if it contributed to the bug, but I've been reading that there have been problems related to it.
