Transform Controls disappear when moving shape path

Despite having "Show Transform Controls" turned on, whenever I try moving a the contents of a shape layer, either as a subpath or in total, the transform controls dissappear.

In trying to replicate, it appears that this is the case for non-shape layers as well, but given the number of issues I've discovered related to shape layers this session alone, I assumed it was distinct.

Suffice to say: the Transform Handles dissapear for all layers while moving despite "Show Transform Controls" enabled.
