Trouble applying the B&W Portrait Filter

Explorer ,
Sep 25, 2023 Sep 25, 2023

Relatively inexperienced Photoshop user here trying to fumble my way through editing some images for an InDesign project I'm working on. I'm using a M1 Max Macbook Pro and using Photoshop 24. I managed to remove the background of the photo and clean up the edges of the image a bit. Now I'm trying to apply the Black and White Portrait preset and nothing seems to be happening. This is the fourth image like this I've worked on today and the other three worked just fine. I have no idea why I can't see the B&W effect on this photo. I'm attaching a copy of the file.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I figured it out. I don't know why it was an issue, but the color of the photo was set to CMYK. I went to Image/Mode and then changed it to RGB and the image changed to B&W.
