How do I turn off cloud storage?
I have a contract with a large client that specifically states none of their files are to be stored on any cloud storage service.
I'll have to find an alternative in the meantime until this is solved.
If using it on Mac/Windows: you choose where to save each file. Make sure you choose as your contract requires.
If using it on iPad: it's cloud only.
Preferences > File handling > Default file location.
Default Save location is also at the bottom left of the Save dialog. It's not hard to find.
Nothing goes to cloud storage unless you explicitly want it to.

I want the default to be on my computer only not in the cloud. I do not want to need to top our everytime I save a file. Adobe wants to take control our assets.

What about Illustrator and other Adobe programs?
Why isn't there a switch in the Creative Cloud app?

If I get a "save the cloud" or "save the desktop" message in my Adobe programs when going to save a file, is Adobe still automatically backing up my files to the creative cloud if this box is checked? or do I have complete manual control over that choice?

If you save to disk, you must make your own backups.
Cloud storage is supposedly backed up by the cloud service provider, that's their responsibility - but I've seen enough corrupt files from various cloud services that I would never trust that.

Thank you for the quick response! I assume that all Adobe apps (for this discussion I'll just list Photoshop Illustrator, Indesign, Acrobat) have a box that is automatically checked as save files to creative cloud. I know that Photoshop has it. You actually have to uncheck it to (theoretically) avoid files automatically being auto saved to the creative cloud. Are you saying that that auto save feature (the backing up of final files, not iterations/versions) is unreliable? I ask because, I think it's very confusing to have that auto save feature and ALSO ask users to "save to desktop?" or "save to creative cloud". At the end of the day, I should be very clear on what's being backed up. If I select "save the desktop," it's for good reason. I don't want it backed up to the cloud. Yet if that box is checked, Adobe (theoretically) backs files up automatically? It's really confusing, and… misleading.

You're confusing different things. What you call auto save is not auto save, it is auto recovery in case of crashes. It does not save your files for you.
Saving to disk or saving to creative cloud storage is a choice. You don't get both. You choose which one in the Save dialog, and that sticks until you choose otherwise. There is also a setting in Preferences.
Backup is your own responsibility if you save to disk on your own machine. Nobody backs up for you.
For the Creative Cloud Adobe obviously need to have their own regime for file security - they obviously can't have customers losing their files all the time.
But there is always a risk with cloud storage. Corruption can happen in transfer, both up and down. At work I'm often asked to open files that my coworkers can't open, invariably coming from some cloud service - and in every one of these cases the file turns out to be corrupt. Not Adobe specifically, but cloud storage in general. It just happens often enough that I wouldn't dream of trusting it. Convenience, yes, safe archiving no.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes I was confusing the two. I've got a reliable backup set up. My one lingering question is about the manual choice of "saving to desktop" or "save to creative cloud" in the Save dialogue. In my experience, I have always received the prompt (to choose btwn the two) when saving files. However, when I recently went in P.Shop to Preferences > File Handling -- "Save to Creative Cloud" box was selected.
