Unable to right-click on Tools (brushes, select, etc.) on Windows 11

Hiya,

I'm currently unable to right click on the tools, and thus am unable to switch between them. I have searched on Google and it was suggested to reset my preferences and uninstall/reinstall the program. I did both of these things, and it still doesn't let me open the right click menu on tools.

As far as I am aware, this problem doesn't affect any other parts of Photoshop. I can open the right click menu on every other part. I have tried right clicking on both my tablet and my mouse, and it doesn't work.

On a related note, is it possible for me to change between the tools without right clicking? I know it's possible to edit the tool groupings to customize it so there are no groups, but that could make it pretty messy for me to select the tools on my little beginner's tablet.

I don't know why you can't right-click, but you do have three other choices:

  • Long-press (press and hold) a tool with hidden tools to see the others
  • Use a shortcut: B cycles between the brush tools; J cycles between the healing brush types of tools. In Preferences you can select whether or not you need the Shift key.
  • Edit menu > Edit Toolbar
Pull off any tools you don't use, then separate the ones you do by pulling them down just a bit. I like the Path Selection tool and the Direct Selection tools to have their own space for instance.
Save the toolbar; and you can Restore it at any time to put tools back.

I hope this is a temporary fix for you, but it should help.
