Ungrouping Artboard to Existing Comp Size?

Hi Photoshop Group,

I have a situation where I'm working from an artboard with a number of comps laid out like a cookie sheet. I don't work in artboards, so I need to pluck each comp, copy/save into a new file, and then ungroup the artboard in that comp...

...When I do the comp canvas pops open to an arbitrary size. Now I have a cookie sheet of these comps. It would be great if this artboard could ungroup into the comp as it so neatly copy/pasted without resizing the comp around it to some odd size that I have to re-size, crop, and align proplery.

Is there a way to do this or some preference that I can select do the folders and layers just sit when they ungroup?

Thanks for reading.
