Hi.

My photos get unsharp and pixelized when I resize them for web. Is there some sort of presharpening that might be turned on?

Could you please post screenshotstaken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible of the original and the resampled image?

I fail to see a problem with the downsampled file.

Are you viewing it at 100%?

What are the width and height dimensions, in pixels, that you are resizing to?

And technically the phrase »when I resize them for web« does not rule out upsampling, so the original pixel dimensions of the image would also be of interest.

It doesn’t look like there’s an obvious problem. And there shouldn’t be, as long as they will be posted on a web page with no further upsizing. In other words, a 200 x 150 px image should look as good as it can if it is added to the web page at exactly 200 x 150 px. If it’s enlarged from that on the web page, it will look pixelated. 200 x 150 px is also just not a lot of pixels to make a picture with.

Now, it’s true that downsampled images can look a little soft compared to the originals, because the downsampled version uses such a small percentage of the image’s original pixel count. If you think that’s what you’re seeing, then when you use the Save for Web (Legacy) option to export the web copy from Photoshop, you can select the Bicubic Sharper option.

It’s also true that some photographers are picky enough about the quality that they do create their own pre- or post-sharpening routines tuned specifically for the web. The video in this link is one example; I’m not saying it’s the best but it’s one way to do it. So yes, you could try that option too.
