Using canon ipf8400 with photoshop CC

Can anyone comment on the following please:

I'm using Photoshop CC on a laptop PC with an older Canon ipf8400 printer.  Canon provides a print plug in for this printer to use with photoshop which you load via the File/export/ipf8400plugin menu.  I have always used the plug in to print in the past, but recently switched from a desktop to an MSI laptop.  After loading all the drivers and software from Canon's website onto the laptop, I can't get the Canon plug in to load in photoshop.  When I use the file/export/ipf8400plugin menu I get the following error:  "the required profile to peform color processing is not available."  I have no idea what this means and thus don't know how to fix it.

     However, I can print to the ipf8400 using the adobe photoshop File/print menu.  So two quesiont:

1.  Any idea what the error message means and how to fix it?

2.  If not, is there any disadvantage or reason not to just use the Adoble Photoshop File/Print menu to print my photos.  I would call myself an advanced amateur photographer in skill level, so i would need the Adobe File/print menu to deliver roughly equal results to the Canon Plug in.

@mgenero for an older printer model, Canon may not have made a compatible plug-in (for newer versions of PS). You'd ned to talk to their support I think -

BUT do you have to have the plug in?

It is frustrating how devices get left behind by SW updates when still working fine 

You can't simply print direct from Photoshop using a regular printer driver?

You should be fine just using the Photoshop File > Print menu which will communicate directly with the Canon print driver and will actually show you the Canon print driver menus if you click on Print settings in the Photoshop print dialogue. I do that here with an Epson printer.
