using pen tool for selection.

when using the 1st pen tool for selection i'm ending up can editing (like painting) everywhere other than the selecting area, i realized later that the layer's frames were also selected (that explained a lot), this happen every time i'm using the tool can anyone help.

Hi

Look in the options bar for the pen tool and set path options to combine (it sounds like you have subtract front shape selected)
