Using "Save As" a different file type/extension should create a new file - not replace

Opened a jpg, added a layer, trying to save as PSD file, but PS CC 24.5 (updated) is saying the file "already exists" (it doesn't) and asks if I'm sure I want to "Replace" the jpg. It should just create a totally new file with a different extension. Essentially creating a new file, not replacing anything. It's a glitch that makes me nervous. This has happened more than once, and it is a new behavior. See screenshot. https://www.screencast.com/t/KySH8OQCfZ5

Before you proceed with saving, can you show your file extensions, which are currently hidden?

  • File Explorer > View tab > Show/hide group > enable the File name extensions check box.
