I have a "legoland" logo which is some writing on a yellow background, , and want to place it in the top-right corner of a larger rectangle which is the same colour as the logo's surround.
I have managed to create the rectangle in another tab, but cannot work out how I now combine the two.
I've tried searching for an answer, and watchint tutorials, but I think that my question is too basic to be covered.
How do I take the large rectangle in anbother tab (or create a new one in the tab that the logo is in) and place the logo onto it, such that I now have a large rectangle with the logo at the top-right corner?
When I try to draw a rectangle in the same tab as I already have the logo, then I get only an outline, although I have selected fill and chosen a colour.
Apologies for the very low-level question, but I have promised my little boy that the legoland driving licence that we didn't collect at Legoland will be arriving today...
The next steps will be adding some text boxes, and his picture.

One method (though not the most convenient one) would be
Layer > Duplicate Layer
and selecting the receiving open document.

You can drag a layer from the Layers palette to another open document.

Thanks. That obscures the logo with the rectangle; how do I make the logo appear on top of it?

You need to set the layer order properly so what's supposed to be on top is the top layer.
