This is so ludacris how far you guys want to deep dive into AI generative fill. To the point I cannot just simply adjust a crop on my layer without the program constantly forcing a fill.
Can we remove this, its making my work flow with photoshop 1000000 times harder now.
Thank you,
With the Crop Tool if you set the Fill to either Background (default) or Transparent (default) then Photoshop won't do any
filling.

In addition to what Jeff said, the options for the tools are sticky, meaning that changes stay across time and across documents until they are changed again or the tool is reset.
Try this: right-click the Crop tool in the options bar (not Tools panel) and choose Reset tool from the context sensitive menu.

Yes, and here's a screenshot, so people can see where to set it back. Also, you don't have to have an image open to set it and from here, it will stick as you like!

Maybe not the place, but since you mention both, I only see Transparent (default) which I don't want, I want Background (default).
Can you tell me how I get that back?

To make the Crop tool Fill menu say Background (Default), do the following:
1. If the bottom layer in the document isn’t named Background with a lock icon, select that layer and choose the command Layer > New > Background from Layer.
2. In the Crop tools options bar, make sure Delete Cropped Pixels is enabled.
See the demo below.
For why that is, keep reading…
Whether the Fill drop-down list says Transparent vs Background depends on two things:
If the bottom layer is not the Background type, then the Fill option always says Transparent (Default) regardless of the Delete Cropped Pixels setting, because empty areas resulting from a crop will be left empty, using the document’s transparent background.
If the bottom layer is the Background type (document background is not transparent), and Delete Cropped Pixels is enabled, then the Fill menu changes to Background (Default). If you disable Delete Cropped Pixels, two things happen: The Fill menu changes back to Transparent (Default), and after applying the crop the bottom layer is converted to a non-Background layer so that the document has the transparent background necessary to keep the pixels that are beyond the crop in case you want to restore them later.

Thank you for the prompt reply. As I posted my comment, I received an error message and didn't think that it went through. I have occasionally run into this situation and didn't realize what was causing it and had been unable to find any information that helped. Your answer explains it perfectly and not only helps me, but may help other people that sometimes run into the same situation.
Thank you again for the help!!!

This is so ludacris
By @davidd89
Jeff's got the right answer…Adobe did not take away either of the old options, you just have to put the Crop tool back into one of those fill modes and you won’t have to wait for generative AI to make something up.
(Also, on a different subject, the word is spelled “ludicrous”…“Ludacris” is a stage name for a celebrity)

None of this works for me after today's update. [cursing removed] Adobe! Your AI generative fill [cursing removed] anyway.

Try this: right-click the Crop tool in the options bar (not Tools panel) and choose Reset tool from the context sensitive menu to reset the tool to its defaults. Let us know!
