What happened to the gradient tool?

I downloaded the Photoshop Beta program, only to discover that the gradient tool doesn't work the way it used to. No problem, I just went back to my original Photoshop program when I need to use the gradient tool. Except now, its gradient tool is acting weird, too. So I'm now without a functional gradient tool.

Can someone explain what changes were made to the gradient tool, so I can figure out how to use it?

Thanks.

Hi @Geobop

You can change the mode in the options bar from Gradient to Classic Gradient to work the old way.

The best tutorial I have come across to learn the new way is from Julieanne Kost:
